About Us

Built Through Cross-Industry Collaboration

PntGuard™ Maritime was not created in a laboratory. It was developed through the combined expertise of leaders from the maritime, satellite communications, and Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (APNT) industries.

The idea behind PntGuard emerged after a commercial vessel operating in a conflict region experienced a combination of GNSS spoofing and jamming during a missile attack. As the vessel’s navigation systems became unreliable, the Incident Operations Centre (IOC) lost confidence in the ship’s reported position, making it difficult to understand the vessel’s true location and provide effective operational support.

The incident highlighted a growing reality: commercial shipping had become increasingly vulnerable to GNSS interference, yet there was no practical, globally available APNT solution designed specifically for the maritime industry.

SGM began a strategic partnership with NAL Technologies (Naltec), a pioneer of APNT technology and preferred Iridium service provider. Together, the teams explored how proven government and defence technologies could be adapted to meet the operational requirements of commercial shipping.

The conclusion was clear: no single company possessed all the expertise required. The solution would need to combine decades of experience from different industries to create something entirely new.

That collaboration became PntGuard.

Cross Industry Expertise

Designed for the Maritime Industry. Proven by the Maritime Industry.

PntGuard Maritime has been shaped through years of collaboration with shipowners, insurers, compliance organizations, maritime authorities, and technology leaders.

The result is more than an APNT receiver or a GNSS monitoring device. It is a complete Maritime Navigation Assurance Platform that combines trusted positioning, resilient communications, operational intelligence, and forensic evidence to help protect vessels wherever they operate.

Because when navigation integrity is challenged, experience matters—and collaboration makes the difference

Maritime Innovation Through Practical Experience

For nearly two decades, SGM Technology has designed and delivered specialized maritime technology solutions for some of the world’s most demanding operational environments.

The company has developed custom systems for a wide range of sectors, including commercial shipping, offshore operations, fisheries, seismic survey vessels, Search and Rescue (SAR), superyachts, and government maritime agencies.

SGMTechnology’s strength has always been solving problems where no commercial solution exists. Rather than adapting existing products, the company designs systems around the operational realities faced by professional mariners. This philosophy became the foundation of PntGuard.

SGM Technology serves as the system architect and maritime integrator, responsible for the overall system architecture, Below Deck Unit (BDU) design and development, bridge integration, the GNSS Forensic Recorder, fleet intelligence capabilities, cyber security architecture, the software platform, and the maritime user experience.

Global Leaders in APNT and Secure Satellite Communications

NAL Technologies (Naltec) is an industry-leading provider of advanced connectivity and critical assurance technology. With nearly two decades of satellite communications and engineering expertise, Naltec is trusted to meet the evolving needs of government, military, and enterprise users worldwide.

A pioneer in assured positioning, navigation, and timing (APNT) technology, Naltec championed the creation of ultra-small, embeddable Alternative Location & Timing Module (ALTM) solutions, enabling resiliency and assured positioning when conventional GNSS is unavailable.

Proven through 13,000 global deployments, this low size, weight, and power (SWaP) Iridium PNT receiver provides PntGuard Maritime with military-grade positioning capabilities for ultimate protection at sea. Naltec’s cloud-based fleet intelligence platform, SkyRouter™ ensures shipowners, fleet operators, insurers, and maritime operations centres maintain full visibility over their vessels–no matter the environment.

Maritime Operations at the Core

PntGuard also benefits from the operational expertise of Tschudi Shipping Company, one of Norway’s most respected family-owned shipping companies with more than 140 years of maritime history spanning five generations.

As an early partner in the development programme, Tschudi provided valuable operational insight throughout the design and validation of the system.

While operating humanitarian aid vessels in areas affected by significant GNSS interference, Tschudi experienced firsthand how jamming and spoofing could disrupt navigation and complicate vessel operations.

Those real-world experiences helped shape many of the operational features now integrated into PntGuard, ensuring the system was developed not only to detect interference but also to support practical decision-making on board and ashore.

Tschudi continues to contribute operational expertise, fleet validation, and customer insight as PntGuard expands into global commercial shipping.

Meet Our Team

Built on Experience. United by Innovation.

The PntGuard Maritime team is united by a common objective:

To provide commercial shipping with a trusted, resilient navigation platform that enables vessels to continue operating safely when GNSS can no longer be trusted.

By combining decades of experience from maritime operations, satellite communications, defence, insurance, and technology development, the team has created a solution that bridges government-grade APNT technology with the practical needs of commercial shipping—delivering confidence to shipowners, crews, insurers, and maritime authorities worldwide.

SGM Technology AS, a norwegian company, holds the exclusive commercial rights to distribute PntGuard Maritime within the maritime industry.
